Slave Name Roll Project: Releasing Daniel, Edd, Frank, Ginny, Hannah, Henry, Mann, Rhoda

Today I am contributing to the Slave Name Roll Project. I am releasing the names of the slaves of Shelah Gillenwater (1795 - 1857), my 4th great grandfather, from Scott County, Virginia. The names I am releasing are: Daniel, Edd, Frank, Ginny, Hannah, Henry, Mann, & Rhoda.

I am attempting to help their descendants locate them. Many times these records are tucked away in family history stories, books, and records. It is my hope that these records help someone locate their ancestors. I hope this helps others with their genealogy and family history research, too.

The will (pictured below) belongs to Shelah Gillenwater (Gillenwaters) from Scott County, Virginia. It includes an index. This index was found in a court record at the Library of Virginia’s website (link HERE). This Court record is a dispute between the descendants of Shelah, but it contains the original will from 1857 - Shelah’s will begins on page 35.
